Are you a bourbon, whiskey, vodka (insert favorite liquor) drinker? Learn about six Northern Virginia distilleries you can tour today!

Virginia is home to 45 distilleries, making some of the best whiskey, bourbon, vodka, moonshine, and liqueurs in the U.S. In the past few decades, Northern Virginia distilleries (spearheaded by the owners of Belmont Farm Distillery in Culpeper), convinced Virginia lawmakers to allow distillers to offer tastings and product sales on-site rather than only at ABC stores. Since this change, dozens of distilleries have opened across the state!

Let Us Drop Some History On You

Before George Washington was elected into office, he played a huge role in the Virginia distilling movement. G-Dubs built stills at Mount Vernon in the 1770s to make rum, but at the counsel of his Scottish plantation manager, James Anderson, he planted rye and started distilling whiskey. Eventually, Washington became the biggest distiller of his time, making up to 11,000 gallons of whiskey a year at Mount Vernon. Today, the original distillery has been reconstructed and is the only 18th century working distillery in the United States.
