Celebrate Independence Day with the “Finest in the Fleet,” aka the U.S. Fleet Forces Band, at the Chesapeake City Park on Tuesday, July 3, from 5 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. There’ll be food, face painting for the kids, a silent auction, and more.

Freedom Fest will also feature a one-mile run for children ages 5 and up. (Proceeds from the run will benefit Roc Solid Foundation.)

Why not spend Independence Day on the beach? Starting at 10 a.m., a patriotic flag ceremony will take place on Outlook Beach in observation of the death of President James Monroe. Music by the Bay Summer Concert at Wherry Quarter will begin at 7 p.m. and a spectacular firework display will begin at 9:15 p.m.

Start the day bright and early with an Independence Day 8K run and a 5K walk at York High School. (If you’re not into running, don’t worry: there’s a patriotic parade at 9 a.m.) After the parade, attendees are encouraged to head down to the Riverwalk Landing Performance stage to see who can stuff themselves with the most hot dogs in just four minutes and 30 seconds.

See the skies of Suffolk light up with fireworks on July 4th at Constant’s Wharf Park and Marina. There will be plenty of food and a variety of activities that the whole family can enjoy. Need a ride? There will be free shuttles from the First Baptist Church, Godwin Courts, and City Hall parking lots beginning at 5:15 p.m.
